Nova
Clinic Hospital
.................................................................................................................
Nova
Clinic Hospital, in Monterrey, NL, needed an information
technology system that would capture relevant clinical
and financial data in a policlinic environment as well
as in the hospital areas, and the would enable in-depth
analysis of the collected data. Fulfilling this requirements would allow the organization
to make changes that would ultimately result in cost
savings and clinical improvements.
They
chose to implement Medisist technology, including the
modules for Scheduling, Pre-admissions, Lab and Radiology,
Electronic medical record, Surgical orders system and
CPOE.
During
the original installation process, Nova Clinic Hospital’s
Medical Department went from paper clinical records
to a completely automated system in less than six months.
Nova Clinic Hospital later opted for additional software
modules to increase their benefits, like HMO information
system and SAP interfaces. They also implemented a fully
automated laboratory information system with third party
equipment interfaces.
Using
the HOST and CLINIC IT systems, Nova Clinic Hospital
has been able to save $ 700,000* annually simply by
changing the way the clinical department was managed.
This software has reduced the average cost of this facility’s
1,000 estimated daily visit office cases by $1 USD each.
This system also enables precise tracking of each patient,
and of the time and materials used for each event (inpatient
and outpatient), making it possible to accurately assess
the needs of every department. This means less waste
of materials and time, and more time for caregivers
to devote to patient care. Physicians have also become
more cost-conscious by assessing real time cost data
during the different clinical events and using this
to make quick cost-related decisions.
Star
Medica
............................................................................................................................
Star Medica, a 7-hospital network in Mexico, implemented
HOSP IT solutions in December 2003. They achieved instant
access to patient data with the ability to calculate
accurate stay and service costs. Their objective was
to achieve real-time billing and a more efficient way
to capture charges. As a multi-facility hospital, Star
Medica also needed to standardize the different parameters
set at each facility.
To
do this, Star Medica chose to implement HOSP IT, an
integrated information system that allows automatic
capture of all charges related to any event, and virtually
eliminate late charges. With HOSP IT, as soon as a nurse
signs a closed case (at surgery, emergency or ward),
the application automatically obtains appropriate data
from the patient record and applies specific rules based
on pre-set or user-defined variables. Information is
then automatically sent to the HOSP IT billing system.
All this, combined with an ability to customize parameters
at each facility, allows faster patient billing, reduces
data entry time, and causes fewer errors.
Using
HOSP IT technology, Star Medica has seen their late
charges decrease from a high 3.5% of their 2003 gross
revenue to a low 1.7% in 2004, resulting in an increased
revenue. Surgical department billing is now at the same
rate, allowing Star Medica to provide a patient’s
bill at the time of discharge. Additionally, the HOSP
IT Solution has allowed Star Medica to reduce data entry
time and errors for both nurses and payors, giving nurses
more time for patient care.
Mexican-American
Hospital
....................................................................................................
Mexican-American Hospital in Guadalajara, Jal., is one
of the region’s busiest hospitals, with an annual
caseload of 27,000. Mexican-American Hospital, a member
of the Baptist Hospital Community, wanted to manage
and control its stockrooms, capture patient data
quickly and effectively, and have immediate access
to that data. In fact, they needed technology so efficient
that it could obtain this data for them. Mexican-American
Hospital found its solution in HOSP IT, which includes
a powerful system for purchasing and stockrooms management
and control.
Only
two years later, the full implementation of HOSP IT
has meant substantial savings in processes and materials
optimization. This improvement combined with an efficient
billing system linked to the accounting module will also
continue to support their active growth strategy.
